Promimic – Advancing implant integration technology

Promimic is a biomaterial company producing a nano-thin surface for all implant materials for faster osseointegration.

With innovative nanotechnology from Chalmers University, Promimic joined the BioVentureHub in 2016 to enhance HA^nano Surface, their groundbreaking implant surface technology based on synthetic bone minerals.

Upon arrival, Promimic was faced with the challenge of scaling their operations and enhancing their research and production capabilities.

Benefits for Promimic - infrastructure and expertise.

Through the BioVentureHub, Promimic benefitted from AstraZeneca’s infrastructure and expertise in various ways:

World-class infrastructure: Access to top-quality labs and support systems enabled Promimic to maintain high standards in their research and product development, particularly in the production of their implant surface coating.

Networking and collaboration: The vibrant ecosystem and networking opportunities at the BioVentureHub fostered valuable connections and collaborations, even though direct collaboration with AstraZeneca was limited for Promimic.

Sustainable growth and lean organization: Shared resources enabled Promimic to grow sustainably, maintaining a lean organization while accessing high-quality infrastructure.

Replicating success: Upon leaving the BioVentureHub, Promimic replicated the blueprint of the labs and quality systems they utilized at the AstraZeneca site, allowing them to establish their own world-class facilities at GoCo Health innovation City.

Key facts - from challenge to opportunity and impact.

From 2016 to 2023, Promimic underwent significant expansion within the BioVentureHub. The team grew from 5 to 16 members, while the turnover soared from SEK 3.4 million to an impressive SEK 37.1 million. This period also saw Promimic’s evolution from a startup to a publicly traded company, marking a major milestone in its journey.

Central challenge: A critical challenge for Promimic was scaling its operations while enhancing its research and production capabilities, particularly for its innovative HA^nano Surface technology.

Main solution: Access to AstraZeneca’s high-quality laboratories and comprehensive support systems at the BioVentureHub played a crucial role. This support was instrumental in maintaining rigorous standards in research and development, especially for Promimic's advanced implant surface coating technology.

Impact & achievement: Through strategic utilization of AstraZeneca’s infrastructure, Promimic not only achieved remarkable financial growth but also positioned itself as a pioneering leader in nano-thin surface treatments for implants, enhancing osseointegration significantly.

Also, Promimic has effectively utilized the SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) system during its time at the BioVenture Hub and continues to implement it at GoCo. The SHE system, which focuses on maintaining high standards of safety, health, and environmental practices, has been integral to Promimic's operations. This system ensures that they adhere to strict protocols, contributing to sustainability in the biomedical field.

Promimic continues to network with neighboring companies in the GoCo House, particularly on matters related to the labs. This experience was gained from the cooperative environment at BioVentureHub. Many of the neighbors they connected with at BioVentureHub are also present at GoCo, and Promimic has brought the same meeting structure to maintain these valuable interactions.

These activities are also an important part of the BioVentureHub alumni network, along with other subjects such as funding, venturing capital, and mentoring activities.

2023 Promimic grew out of BioVentureHub and moved to the newly opened GoCo House, as one of their first tenants from our community and continue to be an active part in BioVentureHub alumni community.
